Total cost of ownership

You may know your advisory fee.
Do you know your total cost?

Most investors know the percentage at the top of their statement. Fewer know what the funds, managers, and platform charge underneath it. Put your own numbers in — every figure here is editable.

Alternatives are management fee only. Performance fees and carried interest are not included and would add to the total.

Platform, program, administrative, or trust fees charged on the whole portfolio.

The Keller side

Assumes low-cost ETF implementation. Fund costs apply here too, and this comparison includes them.

%

Used only for the ten-year figure, and applied identically to both sides — so what it isolates is cost, not performance.

What this assumes

Advisory fee. Tiers apply marginally — each portion of the portfolio is charged at the rate for that band, not the whole balance at one rate. The default schedule shown is illustrative, not any particular firm's.

Product costs. Starting figures come from Investment Company Institute data for 2025: equity mutual funds averaged 0.40% and bond mutual funds 0.36%, while index equity ETFs averaged 0.14% and index bond ETFs 0.09%. SMA and alternatives figures are common industry ranges, and alternatives reflect management fees only — performance fees and carried interest are excluded and would increase the total. Every number is editable.

The Keller figure uses the firm's published advisory fee of 0.60% on discretionary assets plus an estimate for low-cost ETF implementation. If you intend to keep alternatives or separate account managers, those costs would apply on this side too — use the button above to model that.

The ten-year figure applies the same hypothetical growth rate to both columns before fees. It isolates the effect of cost. It is an illustration, not a projection, and it neither reflects nor predicts the performance of any investment.

Not included on either side: custodial and transaction charges, cash drag, taxes, and anything specific to your circumstances. Your actual costs are in your statements and your advisor's Form ADV Part 2A.
